What does Manglik (Mangal) dosha mean in a birth chart?
Manglik dosha is a traditional condition, not a measurement: it is said to apply when Mars occupies certain houses from the ascendant — most commonly the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th, with regional variation in which houses count and whether the Moon or Venus is used as the reference. This tool computes Mars's actual house position from your birth details and tells you whether that classical condition is met, along with the standard cancellation rules that traditions also recognise.
Astrologers genuinely differ on Manglik rules and cancellations. We state the traditional view and the disagreement, and we do not sell dosha removal.
Manglik dosha simply describes a particular position of Mars in your birth chart. Mars is the planet of drive and courage, and when it falls in certain houses, classical astrology reads it as extra intensity in how you approach close relationships.
It is not a bad omen and it does not decide your marriage. Think of it as one line in a much longer chart — useful to know, easy to work with.

How Manglik dosha is checked
Mars's sign, house and degree are computed from the birth chart. The classical condition is then applied: is Mars in one of the houses that tradition names, counted from the ascendant (and in some schools from the Moon or Venus as well)? Because the houses depend on the ascendant, an accurate birth time matters for this check.
Several traditional cancellation conditions are also widely used — for example Mars in its own sign, or comparable Mars placements in both charts of a couple. Which cancellations apply is exactly where schools disagree.
What a Manglik result means
In traditional Vedic astrology the placement is associated with a strong, assertive temperament and with friction that needs conscious handling in close relationships. It is commonly interpreted as something to be aware of, not as a defect in a person.
A single placement is not sufficient to conclude anything about a marriage. Many charts described as Manglik carry cancellations, and many settled marriages involve one.
Common misconceptions
“A Manglik person will destroy their marriage.”
We will not make that claim. It is a traditional caution about friction, and traditions themselves disagree on when the condition even applies.
“You must perform a costly ritual to remove it.”
We never present a remedy as compulsory and we do not sell dosha removal. Where remedies exist in tradition, they are described as optional practice.
Frequently asked questions
What is Manglik dosha?+
Manglik (or Mangal) dosha is said to occur when Mars sits in certain houses from your Lagna or Moon — traditionally the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th. Classical texts read it as extra heat and impatience in the way you handle close relationships, not as a curse.
Can a Manglik marry a non-Manglik?+
Yes. Traditional astrology suggests matching the overall charts rather than one single factor, and in many cases the effect is considered cancelled — for example when Mars is in its own sign, when both charts carry the same placement, or after a certain age. Compatibility is judged from the whole chart, so use the Kundli matching tool for a fuller picture.
What does the Manglik score out of 100 mean?+
The score reflects how strongly the placement shows up in your chart. A low score means the indication is mild or largely cancelled; a higher score means Mars is more prominent. It is a strength indicator, not a warning.
Does Manglik dosha ever end?+
Many traditions hold that the influence softens with age and with Mars's own periods passing. Practically, it is treated as a tendency you learn to manage rather than a fixed condition.
Do I need my exact birth time?+
An accurate birth time gives the most reliable answer because the Lagna changes roughly every two hours. With an approximate time the Moon-based reading is still meaningful.
