Sade Sati Calculator
Find out if Saturn's seven-and-a-half year phase is running for you.
What is Sade Sati and how is it calculated?
Sade Sati is the stretch of roughly seven and a half years when Saturn transits the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign itself, and the sign after it. Because Saturn spends about two and a half years in a sign, the passage runs in three phases of about thirty months. This tool computes your Moon sign from your birth details, compares it with Saturn's current sidereal position, and tells you which phase — if any — is running now, with the period dates.
Calculations use the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa. Sade Sati is a transit period, not a verdict on your life, and we do not sell relief from it.
Sade Sati is the stretch when Saturn moves through the sign before your Moon, your Moon sign, and the one after it — about seven and a half years in all.
Saturn asks for patience and discipline rather than punishing anyone. Many people look back on this period as the time their real foundation was built.

What Sade Sati is
Sade Sati literally means 'seven and a half'. In traditional Vedic astrology it names the window during which Saturn moves across three consecutive signs: the twelfth from your Moon, your Moon sign, and the second from your Moon. Everyone born under every Moon sign passes through it, and most people live through it two or three times in a normal lifespan.
A shorter Saturn transit over the fourth or eighth sign from the Moon is called Dhaiya or Ashtama Shani. It is often confused with Sade Sati but is a separate, briefer phase of about two and a half years.
How Sade Sati is calculated
Two values are needed: the sign your Moon occupied at birth, and the sign Saturn occupies now. Your Moon sign comes from the Moon's sidereal longitude at your birth date, clock time and place. Saturn's current sign comes from its sidereal longitude today. If Saturn sits in the twelfth, first or second sign counted from your Moon, the corresponding phase is running.
The phase table then follows from Saturn's ingress dates into those three signs, which is why the period boundaries are dates rather than approximations. Saturn's retrograde motion can carry it back across a boundary, so a phase occasionally appears to repeat briefly.
What a Sade Sati result means
In traditional Vedic astrology Saturn is read as the planet of structure, patience and consequence, so this period is commonly interpreted as a demanding stretch that asks for consistency rather than as a punishment. The rising phase is often described as the one where pressure appears, the peak phase as the one that tests routines, and the setting phase as the one where sustained work consolidates.
A single transit is not sufficient to conclude anything about your circumstances. The running Vimshottari Dasha and the wider chart are traditionally read alongside it, and many people look back on this period as the one in which something durable was built.
Common misconceptions
“Sade Sati means seven and a half years of misfortune.”
Traditional practice describes it as a period of pressure and consolidation, not of misfortune. Nothing here is presented as certain, and much of the classical literature treats the closing phase as productive.
“Sade Sati can be removed with a paid ritual.”
It is a planetary transit; it runs its course and ends on its own. We do not sell dosha or transit removal, and the steps we suggest cost nothing.
“It is calculated from my Sun sign.”
Sade Sati is measured from the Moon sign (Rashi). Using the Sun sign gives a different, incorrect window, which is why the calculator needs your birth time and place.
Frequently asked questions
What is Sade Sati?+
Sade Sati is the period when Saturn transits the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign itself, and the sign after it. Because Saturn takes about two and a half years per sign, the full passage runs around seven and a half years.
How long does Sade Sati last?+
Roughly seven and a half years in total, in three phases of about thirty months each — the rising phase, the peak phase over your Moon sign, and the setting phase.
Is Sade Sati always difficult?+
No. Saturn rewards discipline, so this is often the period when long-term work finally consolidates. It usually feels demanding rather than damaging, and the setting phase is frequently the most productive.
What is Dhaiya or Ashtama Shani?+
Dhaiya is a shorter two-and-a-half year Saturn transit over the 4th or 8th house from your Moon. It is often confused with Sade Sati but is a separate, briefer phase.
What helps during Sade Sati?+
Traditional suggestions are steady and practical: honour commitments, keep routines, serve elders and workers, Saturday charity, and Shani or Hanuman worship. Saturn's language is consistency.
