Bhumi Pujan muhurat — candidate days, and what a priest still decides
Prepared and maintained by AskJeevanGuru Vedic Research & Editorial Desk.
We keep days whose Nakshatra is one of Rohini, Mrigashira, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Chitra, Anuradha or Dhanishta, whose Tithi avoids Chaturthi, Ashtami, Navami, Chaturdashi and Amavasya, and which fall on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. The direction of the first dig depends on your plot and on where Vastu Purusha is held to lie in that season, so it is explained here, not computed.
Days ahead that clear the Bhumi Pujan filters, with the reason each day passed or failed
New Delhi · 2026-10-22 – 2026-10-25 · 4 days checked
These dates follow the traditional guidance that is commonly published for this occasion. Astrologers and regional traditions differ, and a muhurat chosen for you personally also considers your own birth chart. Treat this as an indicative shortlist and confirm the final date with your priest or family astrologer.
A date is kept only when the day's Nakshatra is one of the seven commonly listed for beginning construction, the Tithi avoids Chaturthi, Ashtami, Navami, Chaturdashi and Amavasya, and the weekday is Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. The traditional direction rule — which corner of the plot the first dig faces — depends on the plot's own orientation and the position of Vastu Purusha, so it is explained here rather than computed for you.
We have panchang data for 4 of the next 30 days for New Delhi, up to 2026-10-25. Later dates are not listed yet — we only show days we have actually checked.

No date in this window passes every filter for Bhumi Pujan (ground breaking).
Dates left out, and why
Traditionally a fixed ascendant is preferred for this act. The ascendant is not part of the filter above, so the exact hour is still worth confirming with an astrologer.
What Bhumi Pujan marks
It is the ritual beginning of construction — the first breaking of ground, usually with a pujan for the site and for Vastu Purusha. Because it is the start of a long project rather than a brief transaction, the tradition selects a whole day and then a lagna, rather than a short segment.
The first-dig direction
Classical Vastu texts place Vastu Purusha differently through the year and prescribe which corner the first dig should face accordingly, commonly the north-east for the pujan itself. That prescription depends on the plot's orientation and the season, and getting it wrong is not something a page can correct — this is the part to ask your priest or Vastu consultant.
Why these Nakshatras
The list favours stable and constructive Nakshatras — the Uttara group, Rohini, Mrigashira, Dhanishta — for the same reason a fixed lagna is preferred: the work being begun is meant to stand. Dhanishta's inclusion reflects its traditional association with building and craft.
Sequence for a build
Bhumi Pujan begins the work; Griha Pravesh ends it. Families often fix the Bhumi Pujan date first and only much later choose an entry date, because construction timelines move. Do not treat a Bhumi Pujan day as booking your Griha Pravesh.
Limits
Our rule set for this occasion is unreviewed by a practitioner and the page shows that. Only cached days are evaluated, so the list is short and never annual. No claim is made about the project's outcome.
Frequently asked questions
Is Bhumi Pujan the same as Griha Pravesh?+
No. Bhumi Pujan begins construction; Griha Pravesh marks entering the finished house.
Which direction should the first dig face?+
It depends on the plot and the season; the north-east is commonly used for the pujan. Ask your priest — we do not compute it.
Do I need a separate muhurat for laying the foundation?+
Many families use one day for the pujan and first dig, and treat later stages as ordinary work.
Can you give me dates for the whole year?+
No. We only evaluate days with cached Panchang data.
